The big spring clean

Spring clean is the perfect time to give your home a new lease on life and is a great way to prepare a home for sale. This annual tradition of thorough cleaning, which dates back centuries, is a time to sort through your personal belongings, clean out hidden nooks and crannies, and prepare your home for the beautiful days ahead.

It’s also a time to invest in new pillows, bath mats, bedding and other accessories to give your home an extra sparkle. Whether you’re a cleaning fanatic or need a little encouragement, spring cleaning can be a satisfying activity for everyone.

Choosing this particular season to do a big clean is a tradition dating back to agricultural times when it was customary to empty and clean out storage areas so that new crops could be placed in them.

This tradition has endured, and a majority of households perform spring cleaning almost instinctively.

The kitchen

The kitchen is the centerpiece of the home. It’s where the whole family gathers to share delicious food and memorable conversations. However, it can also be the most time consuming room to clean. Starting with the kitchen will make you feel like the worst is done in the house afterwards.

The pantry

  • Take inventory of your pantry and check the expiration dates of all products. Dried herbs and spices are often forgotten and unused for months or even years!
  • Clean the shelves and make sure to wash each glass or plastic container thoroughly.

The refrigerator and freezer

  • Just like the pantry, get rid of expired food and products that have been frozen for too long.
  • Clean out the inside.
  • Put your food back in the right order.
  • Wash the outside of the refrigerator.

Cabinets and drawers

  • Empty the inside of cabinets and drawers.
  • This is the perfect time to get rid of chipped dishes, damaged pots and pans, used dish towels or other inefficient utensils.
  • Wash the inside of cabinets and drawers.
  • Organize your items in a logical way to maximize their use.

The stove

  • Clean the interior thoroughly. If your stove is not self-cleaning, apply the indicated product overnight.
  • Wash the plates and grills with soapy water to make sure any dirt is dissolved.
  • Don’t forget to wash the hood that houses the cooking fat and change the filter.

Small appliances and accessories

  • To simplify cleaning the microwave, boil a cup of lemon juice in it for a few minutes before you start scrubbing.
  • Clean and disinfect garbage cans.

The bathroom

Give your bathrooms and powder rooms a royal treatment! Make sure you get into every nook and cranny, making sure there is no dust along the pipes or hair in the drains. Goodbye to old towels and jars of cream that have been lying around for a long time! For a glass shower, white vinegar is particularly effective against lime scale and dirt in the walls. Lemon, pure or diluted, is also a 100% natural solution that will revive the shine of your shower.

  • Remove shower curtains and wash them according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Wash tiles around the shower and bath with a steam cleaner or very hot water.
  • Clean out the medicine cabinet by checking the expiration dates on your beauty products. For expired medications, be sure to return them to the pharmacy for safe disposal – this is essential!
  • Wash mirrors.
  • Clean the sink, shower and tub.
  • Disinfect the toilet bowl.
  • Wash the floor.

The living room

Welcome spring with a bright and refreshed living room!  It’s the perfect time to declutter and reorganize to create a welcoming atmosphere where you can relax after a busy day or entertain guests in peace.

  • Clean light fixtures, lamps and shades.
  • Remove curtains to wash windows.
  • Clean carpets.
  • Vacuum sofas and chairs. If they are stained, you can call in a specialist to clean them or rent a commercial machine.
  • Dust shelves, bookcases and decorative objects.

The bedrooms

When it comes to spring cleaning the bedroom, we aim to make the sleeping environment as healthy and restful as possible. We deep clean to eliminate dust and dust mites, purge our dressers and closets, and freshen up the bed with bedding that is suitable for the warmer months.

  • Sort through your clothes. Put away your knits and make room for your spring clothes.
  • Vacuum the mattress and turn it over, if possible.
  • Wash curtains and windows.
  • Dust decorative items.
  • If you have children and they are old enough, ask them to sort out their games, toys and outgrown clothes in their own rooms. This action can often give a piece of clothing a second life!
